Find The Missing Word

A Gemara in the middle of Berachos reminded me of a lesson I recently learned in humility and judging favorably.
The Gemara says that Hashem’s kingship is mentioned extra times in the fourth blessing of bentching. This is to compensate for the fact that Hashem’s kingship is not mentioned at all in the third blessing of bentching.
Many blessings typically have the words “Melech HaOlam,” “King of the Universe,” in the beginning. The second and third berachos of bentching do not; since they are continuing a series of blessings, they do not need their own beginning formula. The fourth berachah of bentching begins with the standard “Baruch Atah” formula, since it was not originally part of bentching. It was added at a later point in history to thank Hashem for the fact that the Roman authorities permitted victims of the Beitar massacre to be buried.
The third blessing of bentching contains references to the Davidic dynasty—malchus beis David. Viewed in a certain light, this could be considered slighting Hashem’s kingship by only mentioning Malchus beis David. This motivated the sages to put extra mention of Hashem’s kingship in the fourth blessing. The fourth blessing of bentching contains three references to Hashem’s kingship. They are “Melech HaOlam,” “Malkeinu,” and “HaMelech HaTov.” The first mention is necessary because every stand-alone blessing requires mention of Hashem’s kingship. As explained, the fourth blessing was not part of the original bentching formula. The second mention is to rectify the fact that Hashem’s kingship is not mentioned in the third blessing. Once the sages added an extra reference in the fourth blessing, they added a third as well. This last reference is to compensate for the fact that Hashem’s malchus isn’t mentioned in the second blessing of bentching, though that wasn’t really an issue anyway.
