Reuven Confesses After Yehudah
After Rachel's death Reuven moves Yaakov's bed. Hearing Yehudah publicly admit his error, Reuven too publicly confesses, sparing his brothers suspicion.
The Gemara says in Sotah (7b) that Yehudah’s public admission that he erred served as a motivation for Reuven to likewise admit that he sinned. Rachel Imeinu died during the childbirth of Binyamin and was buried in Beis Lechem. Shortly thereafter, Reuven committed a significant misdeed by interfering in his father’s personal matters when he moved the bed of Yaakov from the tent of Bilhah to the tent of his mother, Leah. When Reuven heard Yehudah publicly declaring that he erred, Reuven likewise publicly admitted to his misdeed.
