A Minor Point

Mazel tov to all those who finished Bava Basra! It was especially monumental considering that Bava Basra is the longest mesechta in Shas, by the number of pages. According to one opinion, Bava Kamma, Bava Metzia, and Bava Basra are really one big mesechta. If that is the case, then, by any measure, daf yomi participants just finished the longest mesechta in Shas.
In the last mishnah in Bava Basra, Rebbe Yishmael comments that if one wants to become wise, he should learn monetary laws. He then adds that if someone really wants to learn monetary laws, he should become a dedicated disciple of Shimon ben Nanas. It is interesting that in that very mishnah, there is a dispute between Rebbe Yishmael and Shimon ben Nanas. The Gemara rules that the halachah follows Rebbe Yishmael.
The Satmar Rebbe, zt’l, points out how odd it is that the mishnah extols the virtues of studying under Shimon ben Nanas in the very place that we don’t follow his opinion! Shouldn’t the comment regarding the greatness of Shimon ben Nanas have been appended to a mishnah where we do follow his decision?
